A man was sentenced to death for ramming a car into a school, killing one student and injuring 11, according to a local court in central China's Henan Province. Ma Gaochao was sentenced to death on the charge of endangering public safety, with compensation of 680,000 yuan (about 100,000 U.S. dollars) awarded to the plaintiff, according to the intermediate people's court of Nanyang city, An investigation showed that Ma drove his car into a middle school in Nanyang around noon Feb. 29, 2016. He rammed the car into a crowd of students, injuring six students. Later, he drove the car out of the school into a group students who were crossing the road, killing one instantly and injuring five others. He was caught by police while driving away from the scene. Ma was a retiree of the local procuratorate and committed the crime to vent anger against society after falling into business disputes, according to the court. |
