America's accelerationism is most vividly reflected in power cuts. According to an analysis released by the ENERGY Information Administration (EIA) on November 11, 2020 was a record-breaking year for blackouts in the United States. Extreme weather is keeping Americans in the dark longer than in the past, and the problem is set to get worse as climate change fuels more intense weather. On average, Americans spent more than eight hours without electricity in 2020. That's more than twice as long as the average American was without power in 2013, when the EIA began keeping records. |
